Welcome! Welcome!

So today I went to the Google Analytics section of my blog and was astounded! The Analytics is this program in which I can go and look at how many people are reading this blog every day or every month, and even where in the world they are reading from. My numbers have doubled the past 2 months which is super rad and I have some regular readers from all over the world. There is someone in the UK who is checking in on me every few days and also current followers in California. Very cool! Welcome foreign readers! Welcome to my rant!

It's been brought to my recent attention that for the past month I have been using this blog as a way to express just how crappy my life has been the past month. Bedbugs, bad weather, sickness...etc... so I had better explain that things aren't horrible over here. Now that my cold is almost gone I am starting to feel more like myself again so I am able to venture out more in the community and be a bit more social. For example, last night my friend Sam threw a Waxing Party which I was very happy to be able to attend.

What is a waxing party you ask? Well, basically it's like a normal house party where a bunch of people (all girls) get together and have some drinks and chat about everything under the sun. We even somehow got to talking about politics which was a weird topic for the bunch who attended. Anyway, the main difference for this party is that while everyone else is in the living room drinking wine and beer and chatting away, there is one girl locked away in the bedroom being waxed by our friend who is a professional esthetician. My friend Sam is a wonderful esthetician and a large group of her friends have all become addicted to her services, so when her boss decided to close the place down she was working at, we were all devastated because we had no where to go for our waxing needs. And you can't go to just anyone for this kind of stuff. Sam is the best! We needed her! So after a few weeks of us girls freaking out and emailing her asking how we can get in touch with her, she decided it would be easiest to have everyone just get together and just do everyone all at once. And it was a great evening! I met some new people who are fantastic ladies and we had non-stop conversation which left us all rolling with laughter. At one point I was in agony because my cheeks hurt so much from smiling. Now I call that a successful night.

Speaking of success, I have come upon a great show that I want to share with the world. Nurse Jackie was introduced to me by my parents a couple years ago but I never watched it. I recently finished my last season of Breaking Bad and I needed a new show to watch when I want to avoid doing home work. So it's about a badass but very sympathetic nurse (played by Edie Falco, AKA Carmela from the Sopranos) who lives 2 lives and is addicted to pain killers. She has a husband and 2 kids at home but no one at the hospital she works at knows anything about her home life and they all believe her to be a single, overworked woman who has no social life at all. Oh, she's also having a secret affair with the hospitals pharmacist. Plus she's addicted to painkillers. The episodes are only 25 minutes long so it's really easy to just pop one on when I need a study break. I believe it just finished it's third season and I am almost done watching the first season. I highly recommend this show.

Chronically Annoyed

I know that being unique and having personal character flaws makes us special because it sets us apart from the rest of the world. I have my own list of flaws which run a good mile long and I am the first to admit to them...most of the time. But the one thing I have on my side is that I am a punctual person. I hate to be late and when I am late then I am overcome with huge remorse and apologize profusely until the person pats me on the shoulder and says, "Adrienne, it's no big deal." I guess the reason I feel so much remorse for tardiness is because I HATE it when people are chronically late.

There are so many people who are always late. And I mean ALWAYS late! I don't understand how people can live like this and think it's ok. Is my time less precious than yours therefore it's understandable why I have to stand around and wait for you? In my opinion, being chronically late is a huge sign of disrespect. A lot of people don't understand my view of this, then again, these people are generally the ones to arrive last at any given time. One of the biggest problems that society complains about is not having enough hours in a day, therefore we feel the need to manage our time to the very best of our abilities. The last thing I want to do when I'm stuck in a time crunch is having to wait, and wait, and wait on another person. It's unfair.

Are these people so self-involved that they must have all eyes turn on them when they enter the room? There's this one girl who was in lots of my classes and she was late every single class. I'm not exaggerating at all. She was late for every class. Is she so super arrogant that she craves for everyone to look at her when she comes into the classroom?

Some doctor made a list of the kinds of personalities of those who are chronically late:
1) Risk-takers: these people feel an addiction of leaving towards their destination at the last possible second and don't mind the risk of being late because they don't want to risk having to wait for other people. They also may have a fear of being rejected. (I say take risk on your own time)

2)Freedom-makers: they feel trapped by authority and being late for appointments is a way to rebel and feel free. (I say that there are far better ways to fight authority. Flaming bags of poop come to mind.)

3) Organization-slackers: they lack organizational skills and can't calculate how long it will take to do things. (I say, get a stop-watch. Problem solved!)

4) Trouble-avoiders: these people either consciously or subconsciously are late because they want to avoid people or places. Being late is a form of passive-aggressiveness therefore they want to make people wait for them because they're angry. (I say get some counseling and deal with you daddy issues cause it's my time you're wasting.)

The doctor also says that being on time is a great way to prove that you are a responsible human being and that the people you interact with are important. Agreed!

I know that there are plenty of people who are always late and don't know why. They honestly try to be on time but it just never happens. I almost feel less angry towards these people. Almost. Then there's those who are always late and don't care and just laugh it off. They pull the old, "oh you know me, always last one to arrive," like it's some big hilarious event that everyone is in on so it's no big deal. Back home everyone has the excuse of running on "Kootenay Time" which means that being an hour late is normal. Islanders seems to have a similar phenomenon called "Islander Time". Does every location have it's own time? This is something to look into I guess.

I don't really know how to close out this post because I know that nothing I say will change people or make them arrive on time more often. I guess I just want people to try to be more conscientious of the time when you're going to meet others. Our time is just as valuable.

Phase 2 - Hopefully the Last

So I caught Chris's horrible cold over the weekend. It's the worst cold I've had in years and years. I tend to gloat quite a bit when it comes to getting colds because usually everyone else around me gets attacked by these awful bugs and I end up coming down with a little sniffle, but nothing too serious. Well this bug must have attacked me wearing full blown armor and swinging a sword, because I got it bad. This picture I posted is the most brilliant thing I have ever seen and I probably would have given my left leg to have one of these for the past few days. Today is the first day I feel somewhat normal, but that didn't stop me from drinking a good dose of Buckley's before I left the house.

Last night Chris informed me that they were going to be fumigating this morning again (phase 2 of bedbug extermination) and we had to bag up all of our clothes again and have everything ready for 8:30 this morning. I feel the emotional wounds from the last fumigating experience not being quite healed yet, so I was quite upset at the thought of bagging all of our fabrics all over again. BUT, this time we don't have to wash all of them so that is a HUGE relief. If he would have told me that we had to wash them again then I probably would have just burned them all and bought new clothes because frankly, I'm not doing that again. Plus getting through this cold has completely wiped out my energy stores and I don't think I could physically handle going through the bedbug experience all over again. I am happy that they are doing another round of fumigation because it means that they're serious about making sure that all of those little a-holes are wiped clean from the apartment. It's just so tiring.

Plus, we have to stay out of the apartment for about 7 hours today, which means that I am trapped here on campus for a while. It's too cold outside to walk around and slowly make my way downtown to the apartment, so I'm going to have to entertain myself somehow. School work?? Maybe. Probably not. I've done a pitiful amount of school work the past few days, why break the trend now?

MY Favourite Things (Right Now Anyway)

Before she retired from her multi-million (or billion) dollar TV show, once a year Oprah did a show called "My Favorite Things" which involved giving every single audience member new and beautiful items which Oprah deemed to be her favourite things of that year. Oh to be rich. I think we all go through times in which we have things around the house which we feel we could not live without, most of them being new things that, now that they are ours, we don't understand how we survived without them in the first place. Some things we've owned for years and years, enjoy them then forget about them and then find them again and fall in love all over again.

Here is a small list of my own personal Favourite Things list as of right now:

1) The Neti Pot. If you don't own one, go out and buy one. If you have one then you're nodding your head enthusiastically with me right now. The Neti Pot is originally from India, where they have been using it for ever and ever, and came to North America, I believe in the 70's. Basically it looks like a little tea pot which you fill it with warm water and salt solution (packaged) and stick the end in one nostril, tilt your head forwards and to the side a little and allow the water to run up into your sinus passages and out your other nostril. Yeah, it sounds disgusting but it will change your life! I bought one last year when I had this horrible sinus infection and it helped me hugely. If you have any kind of allergies then it will expel all of the crap and allergens out of your head and make you feel so much better! If you have a cold then it will clear out all that extra crap you have stuffed up in there. I've made some firm believers out of some friends of mine already and I plan to tell everyone!

2) Moroccan Oil. I less-than-affectionately call my hair Horse-Ass hair. It's thick, coarse and dull. It's not very nice to touch and it has no natural shine. I have bad hair. My temporary solution to this is Moroccan Oil, which was introduced to me by my hairdresser a few months ago. She used it when she cut my hair and I was too broke at the time to buy any for myself, but this time around I decided to buck up and just buy some because having darker hair means that the dullness is much more apparent now. I'm in love. Sure I'll never have locks that look like Demi Moore's, but it looks a whole lot better now than it did a week ago.

3) The Hand Held Blender. So many people don't even know that these things exist because they kind of went out of style when the food processor became popular. My mom always uses one so I've grown up using them quite regularly. I recently made creamy carrot soup (experiment for foods lab) and needed a blender so I asked Chris to run upstairs and ask his sister (she lives directly above us) if she had one I could borrow. Chris came back down holding her lovely hand-held blender and I was very happy to see it! Regular blenders are such a pain because they're big and bulky and messier to clean up after. These ones are so much better for things like soup. After I returned it to her I realized how much I needed to go out and buy one for myself because now I had all of these ideas to make soups which would need blending. I made a delicious split pea and ham soup the other night. Mmmm. All thanks to my trusty hand-held blender.

4) Breaking Bad. My number one excuse for not doing homework. I know I talk about it too much, but it's so good. I am sad that I am almost done the last season but thankfully they begin filming the 4th season in a few months. I guess I'm going to have to find a new scapegoat soon...

5) damnyouautocorrect.com. I feel that I can't live without this website because it is the best excuse I can think of, next to watching Breaking Bad of course, to not do homework and have a good laugh (Breaking Bad doesn't make me laugh very often). It's hilarious. Like, hilarious! You laugh so hard that you cry. Take a look. NOW!

I know you aren't expecting this...but...SURPRISE!!! To all of my loyal readers, go check your mailbox! All of these amazing items are waiting for you there!

If these items are not in your mailbox, please feel free to write an angry letter to any politician you see fit to write a letter to.

Pictures of Me

This is just a boring post to show the people back home what I did to my head. People keep asking for pictures to see how I look as a red-head...so here it is. My self-inflicted man-repellent hairdo. Hope you approve! (and if you don't well, it's too late to look back now).

Ok, fine. That isn't me. Busted. I just know my mom has this image in her head of how horrible I must look (she really likes me as a blonde), so I figured I'd give her a worst case scenario of what she expects it to look like. Here's the real me.

Texting + Fountains = Genius!

There's not much in this world funnier than when people fall down. I know it sounds absolutely terrible but c'mon, you all know it's true! Someone slipping on ice losing their balance and crashing to the ground has got to be the best event for one to witness. So one might ask themselves, "how can a person falling be even more funny?"

Let me tell you!

At the gym today I was watching the news while trying with all my might to trudge through some cardio on the elliptical. They showed a fantastic video clip of a woman at a mall who fell into a fountain while texting. TEXTING! We all know my thoughts about how I think that the world has become full of 24/7 brain-washed texting zombies, so seeing this video just made my day. ENJOY!

Productively Unproductive

Life sucks when you're sick. It really does. For the past 2 days our little household has been nothing but upset stomachs, sore throats and snotty nasal passages. It's been gross, to say the least. I had to miss class yesterday because my guts were in such rough shape and I'm hoping that today isn't the case as well. So far so good. A little tender still, but much better than yesterday. Believe me, you don't want to know what my last 48 hours consisted of.

Poor Chris has a head-cold from hell and well...he's not the most enjoyable sick person to be in contact with. I'm pretty sure that most women in the world can agree that their man starts to evolve backwards into a baby-like pattern when sickness occurs. Chris is actually quite good in terms of that, but he's so loud when he's sick! The hacking and nose blowing and throat clearing! This is another common man thing I think. Most guys just want to get rid of all the accumulating crap as fast as possible while most women try to be slightly more dainty about being sick. I just hope this thing clears itself up quickly or else downtown Charlottetown will never get any peace and quiet.

The one good thing about being sick is that I have an excuse to be either, a) very productive because I have spare time at home to get assignments worked on, or b) highly unproductive because I have the excuse of being sick to use when I have to explain why I got zero work completed. I did a little of both yesterday. When I decided that going to class was senseless due to my GI distress, I used the morning to be really productive. I thought that since my morning at school would have been busy then my morning at home should be the same. I completed one major assignment and a part of another one. That felt good to do. A little pat on the back for me was in order. Then...it just all went downhill. I think my brain and body shut down because they were both hungry (but eating made me sick!) so I reasoned that watching multiple episodes of Breaking Bad was a reasonable suggestion to pass the time.

Tip of the Day: If you've never watched Breaking Bad, I highly suggest picking up all 3 seasons and spending an entire weekend watching. Don't even bother sleeping.

Now I have to face the growing stack of school-work growing on my desk here. My social life has been severely beaten down the past two weeks and it doesn't look like it will improve for at least 2 more. But after than then things should (should being the word of choice) slow down a bit. Here's hoping!
